Update

I got a call from Officer Prokof(sp) 214.671.3216 with Vice who has been in our neighborhood but has not sighted any of the prostitutes. They will keep looking. So if you see our ladies, give him a call. (Robert saw one just yesterday)

I have heard that Officer Castro is being promoted to the tactical unit. I have put in a call to the ICP office to confirm that and to find out who his replacement will be.

I left a message for Narcotics and am waiting for an update.

No progress

I am becoming discouraged. 3218 still has lots of people hanging around. Friday night there was a major altercation about 11 p.m.

This morning, Robert saw prostitutes and drug dealers on his way to work.

Officer Castro has not responded to any of my last 3 emails.

I suggest that we write down 5-10 violations each month and send them through our council woman.

The code inspector is less than responsive to phone calls and turning things in on the City website.

Police RV, Crusiers, and Bicycles

Today is the third time in three weeks that the Dallas Police RV and a cruiser is parked in the far west parking lot of St. Luke's Church off of Culver. So far I have seen four bicycle police patroling the neighborhood and one police cruiser. Keep up the good work. The more crime and other problems we report, the more police presence we will have.

Towing near 3232 Culver

Driving down Culver today, there were four bicycle police and one police cruiser in front of 3232 Culver. They were standing by as a tow-truck was hauling away a white pickup truck that had no rear wheels. Of course, the towing may have been because someone left the truck without wheels on the street (not legal) or the truck may have had its wheels stolen. Who knows.

3218 Culver

The police came by again on Monday, March 19, in the morning with a search warrant looking for one of the nephews - nickname Bootsie (Brandon).

So thankfully, they are still keeping an eye out. Rumor has it that it is the nephews, Bootsie and little Teddy who are the drug sellers and since the uncles are addicts they use them to sell.

Only a rumor I have heard on the street.

People are still living in the house -- despite all of the broken windows. We believe they are bootlegging water and electricity. I will ask officer Castro to check on this. [I have heard from him only once since our meeting]

Good News - 3106 Culver

The burned out house at 3106 is GONE!!! Yesterday it was bulldozed and the lot is blade clean. Don't know if it was the owner who realized it was too far gone to be saved or if it was the City who did it -- but thankfully, it will no longer be a problem.

If it was the City, that is the fastest I have ever seen them act. It took me 10 years to get rid of a vacant structure on Kinmore.

Drugs, Crime, Busts 2

This is apparently a very hardheaded group of folks. A prostitute was observed leaving this morning at 5 and the drug lookouts were posted at the front door of 3218 at that time.

at 6:10 a.m., they had the nerve to be in front of my house trying to sell drugs and were observed at 12:30, as well.

Narcotics has been advised.

Drugs, Crime, Busts

Yesterday, March 13, at 4 p.m., the police once agains visited 3218 Culver. Word is that they took 3 people away. They really did a job on the house, most windows broken, a big section out of the back of the house. So there was much scurrying to cover windows -- luckily for them it is bulk trash week, so they scavenged up and down the street for wood

There will need to be major repair work to make it liveable. Hopefully, the many occupants will get this message.

The police had expressed their frustration that after the last bust they were going and blowing practically as soon as the police left. I understand that they will continue to monitor.

Fire Update

There is some progress. A 6 foot tall metal fence has been put around the front and sides and a slight bit of clean up appears to have happened. One could however easily gain access through the alley.

That someone has put up a fence is a good sign. Either the City is faster than I think or the owners are interested in taking action.

the Neighborhood's finest

I have been home sick all week with acute bronchitis so have had an opportunity to observe our neighborhood's finest denizens between blowing my nose.

Since I have been sleeping not well in my chair most nights, I can affirm that activity goes on most of the night, often with loud arguments

That the police are having difficulty with this just totally surprises me after a week off.

a couple of photos from this morning.
