Hello all! Thank you very much for inviting me to join your blog. And thank you to everyone who was able to make it to my Citizen Action Team meeting last night.
A few things:
1) Ms. Garcia--Could you please email me directly (maureen.milligan@dallascityhall.com) to let me know the name of the officer who told you that they had identified suspects in the recent burglaries? I have spoken to two Lieutenants and one Sergeant down at SouthEast and none of them knew anything about any suspects.
2) I mentioned in the meeting last night that I'd like the community's help in identifying houses that are demolition-worthy. "Demo-worthy" houses, for example, have caved-in roofs, missing walls, or severe foundation problems. If you know of demo-worthy homes in your neighborhood, please email the address to me, and I will send my code inspector out to evaluate the house. Thanks Robert for already sending me 3 addresses!
3) When to contact me: As Lorlee mentioned, I have a code inspector who works with me, so I can help address many of the code issues in your neighborhood. That said, I would request that you call me for "complex" code or criminal issues, such as: suspected drug houses, smoke houses, stashhouses; zoning violations; and homes with severe structural violations. Please call 311 for such non-complex issues as: bulky trash, high weeds, junk cars, illegal porch storage, and high fences. If, after you have called 311, you don't get any response from the City, then call me and I will follow-up on your service request (please get a service #).
I look forward to working with all of you and I will try to read the blog as post as frequently as I can!

Community Prosecutor
We had a good showing last evening at the Community Prosecutor Meeting. Robert Ridley (3200 block of Fairview), Michael Romney (3400 block of Fairview, a husband and wife from the 3500 block of Kinmore, a man from Reynolds and me.
She discussed the things she has been checking in to for each neighborhood. She has been working with the police on our burglary problem and has direct links to the Lieutenants on each watch which I think has helped in the increased police presence.
So, my suggestion is that for any property matters, we funnel them all through her. She has Code Inspectors responsible directly to her and doesn't have to deal with all of code enforcement so can get into things deeper and has more tools.
Obviously, police matters should be called to the police, but if we aren't getting a good response that way, also let her know.

As mentioned in previous emails, the police are certainly making their presence known around here lately.
Sunday night, Brad and I saw flashing lights in our living room, went out front and someone was getting pulled over and ticketed. (It was cold, so we didn't see more than that)
Monday night 3AM, I woke up to flashing lights and "get out of the car," "GET OUT OF THE CAR," "I SAID GET OUT OF THE CAR!" Woah. I looked out the window and two cop cars are out front of my house and the car in question was in front of Ms. Alma's (to my right). A short white man had his hands on the car with one cop with him while the other cop was "scanning" the car - (to give him a reason to search). He finds a baggie, places it on the suspects trunk, showing the other cop why he was about to search the car. He searched the car high and lo. At this point, I am tired and get back in bed. I know the lights didn't go away till like am. I heard beeps, etc. probably from the tow truck impounding his car. I am not sure what happened prior to scene in front of the house. My hope is that they were watching the crack house and busted him leaving with drugs. That would explain the get out of the car NOW, as they didn't want him to hide all his reasons to search the car.
My shed is still in tact and I am extremely grateful.
That is the BNN headline news from Fairview avenue.

Update!!!
Two officers came by and spoke with me this afternooon. I was home sick so I was able to talk to them. they know who have been doing most of the robberies. They live off fitzhugh somewhere and one's name is Chris. they have been riding aorund on bicycles in the alleys and down the streets casing our houses. The detectives are aware and are issuing warrants.
The officers told me if we see guys riding bikes up and down the alleys and streets just back and forth to call and report a "suspicious person". They are fully aware of our situation and all our calls and emails have helped them to peiece to gether a case. woohoo!!
Team works folks and we all make it better together. Teamworks is all it takes.

Sgt. Winters
I had a nice chat with him and he tells me that the watch commanders on all 3 watches are aware of the problem and are communicating.
He gave me his email: steven.winters@dpd.dallascityhall.com
I emailed him the list I had sent to Officer Porter.
He says just to report anything suspicious to him on the email.

3218 Culver
I am sad to report that after several months of being empty, this alleged drug house is once again being occupied by Teddy Love -- the one I have always suspected of being the drug seller.
Without any visible means of support, he has managed to get the utilities turned back on so I can only suspect where he is getting the money.
This house is owned by his 4 uncles and an aunt. Various of the brothers have lived here over the years.
We are still waiting for the City to take action for the thousands of dollars of back taxes.

Dog Death
These criminals will stop at nothing. In the 3500 block of Kinmore, they poisoned the dog because it was barking at all of the many visitors. They apparently used rat poison and it was an awful, painful death.
My neighbor's dog across the street has been injured twice from things being thrown at it because it too was barking at the activity in the alley.

Crime
I called Steve Winter's number and left my name. I wanted them to be aware that Officer Porter has the comprehensive list of the many, many, many burglaries that have happened and continue to happen in our neighborhood. Hopefully, we can get the police talking to each other.

Answer and a phone number.
Here is the response I got. They came by my house in the afternoon. Ya know, when I am working. duh. Here it is. please contact me so we can have a sit down with them together. Maybe over tea and crumpits. LOL. I crack myself up sometimes.
here it is:
Ms. Garcia, I have received a complaint regarding crimanal activity in your area. Today, I sent two of my officers to your house to get in touch with you. However, we were never able to catch you at home. The officers did patrol the area for several hours and no criminal offenses were observed. I would like to set up a time when the sector sergeant and an officer can meet with you regarding your crime problems. My office phone is 214.670.8615 and my hours are 6:30 am to 2:30 pm. Also, you can send me an email with any information that you think would help us while looking into your concerns.

Response from the city.
It appears Ms. Medrano has ordered some type of police intervention for us. woohoo!! Some intervention. Some assistance. When I hear from them I will let you all know. I hope this means something and is not just to appease me. Let me know if it is.
oH that picture is on google for our neighborhood. Satellite caught it. Maybe that will stop as well.
Check out the response I have recieved:

important emails we need to utilize
http://www.dallascityhall.com/
You can contact our city council and mayor via this website. Use it. I have sent an email to Pauline Medrano and descibed our recent issues. I described how most of our neighbors don't report crimes committed against them due to their residency status and/or their relatives who are involved in criminal activities. I asked her for her assistance in this matter. I informed her we needed to know the law concerning our Second Amendment rights and hopefully she will get back with me a.s.a.p.
Perhaps we can ask the police deparment to give us a gun safety course or some type of list of rules and suggestions to avoid breakins and what our rights, if any, are. Once the neighbors hear of our doing something about this they will surely rally behind us and stop being victims.
If nothing else, the criminals will hear it and think twice. We need to make that lady who shot the thief in the back at the Shell station our patron saint. Posting things in our yards will help as well. Someone rencently did that and was alllllll over the news.
We need to do something to be noticed and so the police will take us seriously. Jsut because we arent rich or powerful folks from Highland Park or North Dallas doesnt mean we should just accept our fate as common folk.
Feed back is welcome.

Trespassing Intruder
Yesterday afternoon as I was working in my office in the back of my house at about 4:15 p.m. I watched a man walk up through my driveway, look around to see if anyone was watching, and proceed to open my gate and enter my yard. The gate he entered was the one about 15 feet from my storage shed. He proceeded to walk toward my shed.
I ran to grab my camera to hopefully capture a photo of the trespasser. By the time I got the camera and returned to the back door, he was already leaving my property. I am assuming that he was dismayed by the fact that I had reinforced and heavily locked my shed from the previous shed burglary a couple weeks ago.
Confronting him, he said he was "only looking for water" - this I don't really believe; especially considering that there is a water tap/faucet in full view at the very gate he entered and passed by.
I attempted to take a photo of him (and he even said "go ahead, take a picture") but somehow, I messed up the shot and didn't capture him in the photo at all. I am very disappointed. He then walked down Culver to Winslow and back going in and out of various yards along the street (I drove around in my car watching him).
I called and repoted this to 911. Police came and took a report. Two police cruisers spent some time driving around the neighborhood looking for him.
He was a black gentleman, about 40 years of age, about 5'-6" in height, slightly heavy, and wearing a medium goldish brown jumpsuit similar to those worn by mechanics. He did not at all appear to be homeless as his clothes, face, and hair were clean in appearance.

Burglaries
In the 28 years I have lived here, I do not remember a time when we have had as much criminal activity as we have now. Below is a list of the addresses that I know have been victimized by crime recently:

3442
Kinmore
3219

3251
St. Charles
3003
We have been advised that there are many more on Kinmore, but that the occupants don't want to get involved, either because they may have been purchasing stolen items or because of immigration status.
We also heard there was activity on Jerome, but don't have specific reports.
An attempt was made on Reynolds two days ago.
Some have said that someone named "Shorty" may be involved (real name Terrell Robinson)
We have suspicions about the houses at 3443 Kinmore and 3227 Kinmore as potential drug houses. Both of these addresses have been reported to Narcotics.
