above is the link for the 311 system to report criminal activity at a residence. I suggest we all report this house where the drugs/violence are occuring. ASAP.

correction
The bullet went into a vehicle parked by the bedroom, not the bedroom. In my mind, that is a moot point since random bullets shouldn't be flying anywhere.
I had a long talk with the Community police officer who said if we want to build a case, we have to call the police when anything happens. I don't know how to encourage people to do that.

More Brazen Theft
This morning Lorlee called me from the bus stop to alert me to two suspicious looking guys walking by my house. I went out immediately, but didn't see them. She later said that they were headed down Culver toward the park.
About 20 minutes later I watched a police cruiser drive down our alley.
About 15 minutes after that, our neighbor, a lady that walks from her house on Culver to the church where she works, rang my doorbell. She told me that she watched two men walk down Culver toward the park with an expensive landscape blower that belongs to a family member of hers. The owner of the blower was working at the church and after finding him, she determined that his blower was indeed stolen. Again, as with so many of these burglaries, broad daylight and in no rush to get the stolen goods to wherever they are going.
She recognized the faces of both men immediately as they walk our streets daily (looking for something easy to steal apparently). She identified them as two of the guys that either live or stay at the drug house near the park on Culver.
She has seen these two go in and out of the empty house next to Dorothy's on occasion - which is strange since they certainly don't own or rent this empty house. Supposedly, stolen goods have been stashed in this house, and its is also used as a quick way to get from Culver to the crime alley (I call our alley the crime alley for obvious reasons).
The police were cruising the alley in response to her call to 911.
I find it EXTREMELY sad that even positive identification of who the people are can't get these criminals off of our streets. Obviously these criminals know this too since they so brazenly steal things in very public areas and don't even try to rush home with their stolen loot.

Just keeping you up to date
Below is my email to Officer Winters. I have also spoken with Narcotics this morning and with the Community Prosecutor.
I have reached the end of my rope. Night before last, at the crack house at 3218 Culver that we have been fighting for 2 years, they had a gun battle in the front yard with one of the bullets entering 3210 Culver.
Woke me up, I called 911 as did the residents at 3210. I understand from my neighbor that the police responded.
Yesterday, the residents at 3218 Culver threatened the woman at 3210 for calling the police.
Melanie Daniels is the resident -- and while she can be a bit excitable, she has a 4 year old child and is understandably pretty upset.
I understand from her that the police have not been very responsive. Yesterday, She called about a prostitute crawling through the window at 3218 and the police officer basically told her to mind her own business.
That is totally unacceptable -- given that for 2 years we have done everything we can to cooperate with the police in trying to rid our neighborhood of this menace. Also, since we have been instructed to call the police about any suspicious characters -- and they abound at 3218.
The person nominally in charge is Teddy Love -- nephew of the 5 children who inherited the house when their mother died.
This escalation can only end badly unless something can be done.

Update
As I waited for the bus this morning [which never came and that is another story], the man who lives across from the bus stop pulled up to talk to me about the fire. Interesting, since he has been nothing but rude to me in the past.
Asked me if I knew about the fire -- apparently since he had seen me last week looking for my stolen stuff at that house. Told him I had called it in. He told me he knew that man for 30 years and had seen him decline (apparently into drugs) and that a house next to him had complained. I suggested that many on that street had complained and many more were scared and concerned. I expressed relief that the situation has resolved itself and the house is now a goner.
Anyway, the only real piece of information I gathered was that he thought the woman who was pulled from the fire is the woman that we have all seen in the neighborhood... the older woman who shuffles along at a snails pace. He said he thought her children had put her in a home and she had escaped.

Another Drughouse up in smoke
Last evening, the house at 3227 Kinmore burned quited spectacularly.
When I got off the bus at about 6 on Fairview by the Park, I saw some smoke from Kinmore. I walked up Fairview towards it and then the fire really took off. I called 911 and then walked around to Kinmore and watched with most of the rest of the neighborhood as the firefighters fought the fire. [I thought it took a really long time to get any water on it].
Javier who lives close told me that he had seen the fire, gone to Dolphin to pick up the occupant, who was there apparently doing what we suspect he does and went back to the house and together they pulled an elderly wheelchair bound woman through the back window. Javier expressed concern about her ultimate survival. Another woman was seen leaving, apparently a druggie.
The quickness with which the fire engulfed the house leads one to wonder if they might have been cooking drugs and it got out of hand. There was almost an explosion.
This is a house that we have suspected of illegal activity for quite some time, in conjunction with a house on Fairview close to the park.

is there a new cat house on our block?
Was leaving for work in the early A.M. hours and saw a caucasian woman with short blondish hair in heels and jeans walking down away from our end of the street. She was walking a bit brazenly for it being dark and her being alone. She had on some pretty high heels. Just seemed out of character for our neck of the woods.
So lets keep an eye out for this not to become hooker row or anything like that. I am not used to being approached at 5am. I am not very nice that early in the morning. If i see her again I will approach her and ask her where she lives. i was running late this morning. I do work in Plano. I hate driving.
love ya'll.
Oh my new roommate is back in town if you see a tall girl going in and out of my house. Her name is DC. ( she is from Washington DC.) She is a temp and Jim and alan know her and Wanda has seen her as well. jsut a heads up.

The thieves are back....
My garage was burglarized over night. I have a garage door opener that is locked with a keypad -- the thieves went into the side 1/2 garage that is open for the cats -- over the wall and opened the door from the inside. They took my bike and my stepladder.
So if you see a red new 6 foot stepladder or a slate blue 10 speed with mountain tires -- they are mine. I found my other ladder in the alley -- apparently they couldn't carry it all and were planning on coming back.
I suspect that someone was watching. My car which is always in the garage has been setting out for the last 5 days since the carpenter has been working at my house building cabinets in the garage and other things. All the stuff that had been at the front of the garage was in the garage while he was building the cabinets so there wasn't room for the car. I expect someone was casing the place and suspected that there must be lots of stuff in the garage since the car was out It hasn't been out in 5 years. Fortunately, they didn't go after my 16 tubs of Xmas crap or the three tubs of framed photos from my Cuba exhibition. (all much more valuable)
I confronted the guy at the drug house who insisted he has seen a "white" guy who appears to be collecting cans go up in my driveway on different occasions. This mysterious "white" guy also was the one who stole my newspaper according to another of my neighbors. The only problem with that scenario is that no one else has seen this guy and these two I suspect are in cahoots and trying to throw suspicion away from themselves.
I also checked the other suspected drug houses and went to "Raymonds" (the fence down on Haskell). Didn't see my stuff, but I spotted at least 8 lawn mowers so those of you who lost yours might want to check him out.
And like the old adage about locking the barn door after the cows are gone, I have a new lock on the 1/2 garage door and put the lock back on the alley gate.

Fire & Rescue Activity
Came across an internet link over at the Observer. It is an up to the minute listing of current fire and rescue calls. I am often curious where they are going as they fly by the house.

DPD and Owenwood
Just wanted to let everyone know that I was at the DPD Southeast patrol station yesterday for their 3pm roll call and heard them assigning an officer to patrol Owenwood. I don't know whether this is an every-day or an every-shift occurence. Either way, I think it is very positive for the neighborhood that: (1) DPD officers are becoming familiar with "Owenwood" and (2) the supervisors at SouthEast are sending extra patrols to the neighborhood.
Increased presence; park shelter
As I was coming home on the bus last evening, the police had stopped an old brown pickup truck where Fairview meets St. Charles. Don't have a clue for what, but the increased police presence is appreciated.
This morning, I took a later bus and was surprised that there was already suspicious activity in the park under the shelter at 9:20 a.m.
The shelter has turned out to simply be a place for unsavories to get out of any inclement weather. Could have told that to all who wanted it, but they insisted it would be a wonderful thing. Of course, none of them live close to the park.
