Prostitutes and Drugs

Apparently, our favorite prostitute is out of jail and back in the neighborhood. As well as a couple of the dudes who traffic in drugs. So just when things seemed to have quieted down, we need to be vigilant. If you see any suspicious folks, please just call 911 and let the police sort it out.

Towing Company

I learned at the meeting with the Neighborhood Prosecutor on Saturday that the towing company is probably not coming back. Their request for a license apparently was denied and Code Enforcement has been taking enforcement action on the buildings and at least one of them is gone.

Police officers fatally shot a man who reportedly pointed a gun at them Sunday night in Old East Dallas.
Dallas Police Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse said police received multiple calls about a man in a car with a gun threatening people in the 1400 block of Fairview Avenue just south of Interstate 30.
Witnesses followed the man’s Ford Taurus to Beacon Avenue and flagged down officers, who put an alert over the police radio.
Police said two officers saw a man inside a car waving a gun and threatening a bystander in the 1400 block of Garrett Avenue, near Bryan Street and Munger Boulevard, about 7:20 p.m.

They ordered him to drop his gun several times, Sgt. Gary Kirkpatrick said. But he did not follow their directions and pointed his gun at officers, Kirkpatrick said.
“Fearing for their own lives and the life of the bystander, the officers fired into the vehicle,” Janse said.
It’s unclear whether the man returned fire or said anything.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.
He said police had a “very large crime scene” that includes the Fairview Avenue area and the scene on Garrett Avenue. Police also said they had lots of witnesses to interview.
The man’s body could be seen in his sedan at the southwest corner of Garrett Park. Several police cruisers were nearby, with one of the units resting on the sidewalk within feet of the dead man’s car.
Witnesses say the small neighborhood park was full of people when the shooting occurred.
David Koch and Staci Rogers said they heard shots a little after 7 p.m. and looked outside. They saw officers pulling a ballistic shield out of a police car’s trunk and advancing toward the stopped car.
‘They were still shooting. I saw one of the cops holding his shield up,” Rogers said.
Witnesses described the shooting as an initial barrage followed by a few single shots.
“A bunch of guys were playing soccer,” said James Lemon, who lives in a nearby apartment complex.
Lemon said the gunshots woke him up.
“We heard eight or nine shots … pop, pop, pop, pop…” he said. “Then sirens were coming in from everywhere.”
