5623 Culver

I got the following message from Maureen regarding the congregation of homeless in the 5600 block of Culver and at the St. Luke's AA house.

"Eric visited the house owned by St. Luke’s last week. There weren’t any homeless folks at the house when he visited, but he did see the homeless camps that were in the alley behind the house. Eric made contact with the owners of the businesses on the other side of the alley and told them about their responsibility to keep the alley clean. Eric also requested that Crisis Intervention visit with the homeless folks.   Eric will continue to follow-up on this problem and make sure that the alley gets cleaned!"

Update

The owners of 3231 Culver did not demolish it, so now it goes back to the City and hopefully it will be on the demolition docket in the next month or two.

3218 Culver (the boarded up house) has reverted to the City for taxes.  Don't know what happens now  -- probably will just be a boarded up mess with a falling down garage.  Thankfully, the people next door have been mowing the yard.

Homeless

There have been a number of homeless people staying on the porch and behind St. Luke's AA house (5623 Culver).  I had turned this in to the Community Prosecutor a couple of times and Russell had turned it in as well.

I called 311 on Monday evening when there were probably half a dozen on the porch.  Tuesday morning when I passed on the bus -- there was no one, only a mattress leaning agains the wall.  I got a call back on Tuesday from someone (police maybe) that they had been there and engaged a homeless individual.    My nose was in my book as we went by this morning so I didn't notice.

I also called St. Luke's and they indicated they were aware and trying to solve it.

Robert says that there is a homeless encampment in the alley behind the liquor store.  I don't know if that is true, but will probably check it out and call it in if that is so.

Please keep your eyes open.

Update -- tonight on the way home on the bus -- I saw at least 2 in the backyard.  I will continue to press the Community Prosecutor -- if she ever calls me back -- and will try St. Luke's again.
