Demoltion of Vacant Houses

I got the following from Maureen:

-Do you know of any home owners in Owenwood that would want to take advantage of free demolition of their vacant houses?

The National Guard will likely be coming in December to demolish up to 50 houses in Dallas neighborhoods with drug problems. I'm going to be sending letters out to owners next week. Marilyn has referred a couple of folks to me, but I thought you and some of your neighbors might be aware of other owners who might agree to accept this assistance.

Right now, there is nothing on my street.  If anyone is aware of any, let  Maureen know at 214/957-1100.

Continued problems on my block

Last evening at the house which is suspect in all of the burglaries, there was a fight on the street, followed by a SUV driving by and firing 11 shots.

We are all getting pretty frustrated with the lack of police action. They supposedly have fingerprints etc. I have called the chief at SE to see what can be done. Gave them all the info. The best they could tell me was that they would send extra patrol. I also left a message for Sgt. Zimmerman who is in charge of Community Policing, but she has never been helpful in the past, so I am not holding my breath.

Update: A lieutenant from SE called me back and said they have undercover drug and burglary guys and he thinks they can do something. So we hope he is right. He has promised to call me back.

Neighborhood Apathy

This morning as I took my walk, one of the neighbors stopped me to complain about all the trash (human) he sees headed to the park and the prostitutes. I told him to call 911. He declined. When I asked for the address of the whore house so I could call it in, he also declined. At which point, I told him to please not bother me with his complaints anymore.

Shoot, he can be anonymous in calling the police and wont do it. And won't even tell me so I can do it.

I guess I am tired of all of these people expecting me to fix things without them even lifting a finger. They get what they deserve.

I understand being afraid, but you can be anonymous.

Raccoon and Dog poop

Yesterday morning, there was a rabid, sick or injured raccoon under my neighbor's truck. It made its way across the street and I called the City (311 and the rapid Response #) and tried to keep it from getting away. After about half an hour it went past me and crawled under the porch at Russell's house. I wasn't going to get right in its face in case it was rabid. So 2 City trucks showed up but they cannot damage property to get at it so left saying Russell should call 311 for a trap. The animal control people said that since it wasn't agressive, it was either injured or had distemper which will wipe out a whole colony. So be on the lookout for other raccoons.
While I was walking up and down trying to keep the little guy corralled, I noticed the huge amount of dog poop on the parkway and in the street -- left by the dog from 3222 Culver. I pointed it out to the Animal Control people who told me that virtually all of them have already given tickets to this address. So I don't know what else can be done. I am tempted to scoop it all up and put it on their porch. I know all of the neighbors are tired of it with one of them threatening to shoot the dog.

3231 Culver Update

They took all the bricks off, cleaned them and put them back on.  They are doing a bang up job.  This is the best this house has looked in the 30 years I have lived here.

Crime Wave

Now 3210, 3226 and 3230 have all been hit twice in the last couple months.  Today, 2 young men were seen going into 3222 after leaving one of these houses.  They have been implicated before.  I talked with the police tonight and filled them in on all that we know.  They say to keep calling 911 if you see ANYTHING.  2 Hispanic males about 20.

And keep on the lookout for the Burgundy Honda which was seen at one of the burglaries was back on the street last week.
