REVIVING A DYING CHURCH

Owenwood Farm & Neighbor Space is White Rock UMC’s second campus. Following the resurrection and renewed life of our once dying church, we have come to know that the revitalization of urban churches is best accomplished when we take time to know the hopes, dreams, and challenges of our neighbors. This simple idea is often lost in the midst of anticipating or projecting what neighborhoods lack. We know that the future of the Church is grounded in radical hospitality and the willingness to trust that God is already at work in the neighborhoods we love.

We do not bring all the answers or resources to an underserved community. We are collaborating with many so our neighborhood can flourish.

A NEW KIND OF COMMUNITY

Our dream is to create a community at Owenwood where our neighbors are known, heard and invited to use their gifts to transform Far East Dallas. While we do not bring all the answers or resources to an underserved community, we are collaborating with many so our neighborhood can flourish. This is done through creative partnerships with existing nonprofits, bold initiatives born out of the dreams and talents of our neighbors, and the willingness to take risks on behalf of the Gospel.

The Gospel is best understood in the friendships formed with strangers who are often our neighbors. Our worship focuses on intimate conversations around a meal. Our work is grounded in the relationships we continue to build with the community. Our mission is to create a space where the Spirit of God is followed, not doubted. Our commitment is the formation of a new faith community grounded in justice, equality, and opportunity for all who live in Far East Dallas.

REV. JOSH ESPARZA

CAMPUS PASTOR

Josh was appointed to Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space. Josh is an advocate for asset-based community development and believes churches should play a vital role in that process. You’ll find Josh talking with people from the neighborhood, planning worship, and meeting with people who are looking for a way to experience their faith differently. Josh considers himself a foodie and coffee connoisseur, so he and his wife, Victoria love to explore Dallas to find the best food/coffee spots.

NEIL MOSELEY

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Neil is Director of Community Engagement and split his time between Owenwood and White Rock United Methodist Church. You'll find Neil meeting with folks in the neighborhood to figure out how the church can be of service. He moves lots of tables & chairs, and is always cleaning out closets & cupboards. Neil loves movies, music, grammar, and arguing. Neil lives in Dallas with his wife, Elizabeth, and their son Nathaniel, daughters Evangeline and Josefine, and his obnoxious cat, Corduroy.
